I have a deep relationship and commitment to mental health awareness. I have struggled myself and so have many members of my family. Over the years I have studied and practiced meditation and yoga to help me take control of some of the anxiety and depression I have experienced myself. I have created a workshop that is truly about community about the destigmatization of mental illness. It brings people together to have them know they are not alone and then give them tools to add to their mental health self care.
Yoga for Anxiety and Depression Workshop
Since the 1970s, meditation and other stress-reduction techniques have been studied as possible treatments for depression and anxiety. Available reviews of a wide range of yoga practices suggest they can reduce the impact of exaggerated stress responses and may be helpful for both anxiety and depression. In this respect, yoga functions like other self-soothing techniques, such as meditation, relaxation, exercise, or even socializing with friends. -Harvard Medical School-
Using breath control, yoga asana postures, restorative somatic movements and meditation, Keri Setaro, will lead this workshop in creating emotional balance in mind and body. Having suffered from anxiety and depression her whole life and seeing so many others suffer as well, Keri has devoted her personal practice and exploration in freeing the mind and body from the chains of depression and anxiety. There are simple tools we can do everyday to help reduce the pressures of daily living and create inner body peace. Keri will teach these tools to empower the student to be do them themselves in or out of yoga studio. This workshop is appropriate for all levels and the students will walk away with practical applications for stress reduction.
